On the Move in Congregations still inspiring those to move; new 81 page program guide makes it even easier to participate

The Church Health Center's six-week, healthy-weight management program, On the Move in Congregations, continues to make tremendous strides. Building on the success of the popular meditation journals Walking with Jesus and Walking with Abraham and Sarah, a new 81 page program guide is now available.

The new program guide provides all the information an OTMC coordinator would ever need including Getting Started with OTMC, nutrition, finding ways to add 2000 steps to your daily routine and more. The addition of this guide also makes it easier for congregations to participate.

On the Move is designed specifically for congregational groups. Each participant who signs up receives a meditation journal, which includes scriptures, meditations, health tips and a map showing the travel route of a particular biblical figure, as well as a pedometer to track daily steps. The cost to participate is only $5.

Participants make simple, positive lifestyle choices while walking in the footsteps of biblical figures. Specifically, they are encouraged to make the following daily goals:

- Walk an extra 2,000 steps (about a mile).
- Trim 100 calories out of their diets (about half a can of soda)
- Consume three low-fat dairy servings (yogurt, milk or cheese).

On the Move was developed by the Church Health Center in conjunction with America on the Move in Tennessee in an effort to motivate the faith community to get healthy one congregation at a time.

To begin On the Move in Congregations, someone from your congregation or small group must volunteer to lead the program. Group leaders will then be trained and provided with the necessary tools.

"There's no reason why On the Move in Congregations couldn't work in any congregation in the nation," said Executive Director Dr. Scott Morris. " We stand ready to help any house of worship that ready to start the program."

For more information about On the Move in Congregations, call our Faith Community Ministries staff at (901) 261-8833 or emai fcm@churchhealthcenter.org.
